Yep. I’m doing it. I’ve always wanted to do posts where I told you all about things I’ve discovered that I love. Well guess what? I’m starting today. Five things I love. No affiliate links here, no sponsored spots, this is just stuff* I really like.
* “stuff” is going to cover a wide range of things, from books and music, to facial care, to articles on other sites that made me thing/smile.
1. This blue faux suede tote from Old Navy.
I always go with neutral black or camel when I buy purses, but for once, I wanted to do a pop of colour. Yay, colour! This puppy is going to fit my MacBook Air, my wallet, my sunglasses AND my makeup bag. It’s perfect for the blog conference I’m going to next weekend, and it’s perfect to bring with me when I go to the local cafe to write, when I need to get away from the kids. The fact that it’s faux suede means that it won’t break the bank for me. Which is awesome, since there’s pretty much nothing in the bank.
2. White Mallow diaper rash cream by Weleda.
People often ask me what I use on my own kids, after spending 8 years working in the body care department of a major organic grocery store. This stuff is the only thing I use on my baby’s bottom. No essential oils or fragrance to irritate sensitive skin, which my little guy has. It still has zinc in it, though, which makes it a great barrier cream that heals, too.
3. Seabuckthorn Best Skin Ever by Living Libations.
People tend to comment on my skin being very youthful, and hey, I just got carded the other day. I’m 39, people. That’s serious winning, right there. I’ve been using natural oils on my skin for about 8 years now, so most of my 30s, and I’ve seen a huge improvement on many levels. This stuff is AH. MAY. ZING. Seabuckthorn and tamanu oils are both really healing and soothing, and the jojoba and coconut oils are perfectly moisturizing. I love this stuff.
4. Sheer Moisture Lip Tint (Blush) by Mineral Fusion.
I love lip colour. But I hate the whole process of applying and reapplying (and reapplying) lipstick. “Oh, just get that colorstay stuff!” you tell me. That shit is full of chemicals, plastics and coal-tar colours, ladies. And guess what? We eat it all, when we eat or drink with lipstick on. Soooooo, gimmie the natural stuff that rubs off. When it feels like you’re putting on lip balm, the way this does, I don’t mind. And the colour is my perfect neutral shade of plummy brown. I go everywhere with it.
5. Patrick Watson.
If you love music that’s joyous, contemplative, epic and has a cabaret chamber pop feel to it, this guy is it. He is the man. I stumbled on his album, Wooden Arms, 8 years ago, and I fell in love. Beautiful, complex and catchy music from a fellow Canadian.
Okay, I went in an entirely different direction with this post. Do you hate me? Do you love me even more? Is this your bag, or would you prefer the humour/lists/heartfelt stuff? Tell me in the comments!!
