It’s Friday again. I haven’t decided yet whether surviving till the end of this week is a good thing. It’s been a long-ass week. Tuesday night, I managed to use Baby C’s leg as an unintentional baseball bat, knocking a very heavy mason jar mug off the dining room table. It landed on the nail bed of my big toe, and the result has been nothing short of spectacular. Truly, I had no idea so much pain could be cause by a fucking mason jar. I will more than likely lose the toenail, but in the meantime, I am lucky enough to look at its lovely rainbow of colours any time I choose!
I have been itching to share a photo of this disgusting toe on social media, but I’m afraid people will actually unfriend me. It’s that bad.
Anyway, my post earlier in the week about Caillou’s mom got a bit of attention, so I hope everyone enjoyed it. There’s something really satisfying, complaining about cartoon characters. I think other parents must feel the same way, given that my post about wanting to throat punch the Bubble Guppies has gotten 15-20 visits a day, every day since I posted it, back in August. Several thousand, in total.
But you’re here to see what kind of things I love this week! Who can blame you? I have great taste.
The Instant Pot 7-in-1
Uhhh, yes. This is my new favourite kitchen gadget. I seriously love it because I have now made a bunch of really awesome stews on the pressure cooker function, as well as yogurt! And it was good! There is seriously nothing better than being able to make a stew-type dinner in just a few hours, rather than having to remember to pop it all in first thing in the morning. Plus did I mention? Yogurt, people.
Weleda Nail Care Pen
Okay, you may have realized that I have a love affair with Weleda. I love their baby products, I use their fluoride-free (and mint-free) tooth gel to brush my kids’ teeth, and their lip balm is to die for. But this nail care pen with pomegranate oil, shea butter, jojoba oil and more is my new favourite thing. Since I started using it a few weeks ago, my nails have noticeably improved. They’re normally quite soft and peel easily, but they’re already stronger than they were. I’m impressed.
Meredith’s Ginger Syrup
This stuff is everything, during the winter. I know we’re supposed to be grating our own ginger, boiling it with lemon, then adding honey and drinking it when we’re sick, but this is so much easier. Put on the kettle, pour your desired amount of this fantastic ginger syrup with honey in a mug, add lemon juice and hot water. Instant comfort.
Brandon Sanderson – The Stormlight Archive
I want to climb inside this world that fantasy author Brandon Sanderson created. Never have I delved into a world so distinctly different than ours, and so magnificently detailed! These are huge tomes of books (two in the series, so far), and I just finished the second in the series, Words of Radiance. I was so sorry when it ended, because I didn’t want to leave that world. If you love fantasy, you need to read these books.
8 Ways Surviving Postpartum Depression Makes You Stronger For The Rest Of Your Life
I wrote this piece for Romper, about surviving PPD, and I’m pretty proud of it. Take a look at it, because I haven’t shared it via Facebook yet!
That’s it for now. Happy weekend!
